Pierre Saint-Laurent is president of AssetCounsel Inc., a financial services consultancy serving the analytics, product development, compliance and marketing/ communications needs of Canadian retail, private wealth and institutional money managers and distributors. Clients include major financial institutions, investment fund manufacturers, investment managers, financial services distributors, and alternative investments firms.
He was formerly vice-president and shareholder of Canadian mutual fund firms. He has spearheaded the development of asset allocation software, and was closely involved in the management and deployment of the first widely available hedge fund in Canada.
Mr. Saint-Laurent acts as expert witness in financial services matters.
He has previously taught at HEC Montreal (the University of Montreal Business School) between 1984 and 1992, and lectured at the University of Montreal Economics Department in 1984. He also was research economist at Hydro-Quebec in two of its divisions between 1992 and 1994. He is currently Faculty Lecturer at HEC Montreal (undergraduate and graduate levels) in finance.
He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Montreal, with doctoral studies in Economics at the University of California at Berkeley. He holds a D.S.A. (Diploma in Business Administration), a graduate degree, from HEC Montreal. He holds the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation and has been a CFA Examination Grader in Charlottesville, VA, USA. He is currently a member of the CFA Institute's Candidate Curriculum Committee and Disciplinary Review Committee Hearing Panel Pool. He holds the CAIA (Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst) designation. He has completed the FRM (Financial Risk Manager) examination in 2007 and received the FRM designation in April, 2008, and the CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) designation in 2010.
Mr. Saint-Laurent is Co-Chair of the Quebec Committee of AIMA Canada, the Canadian chapter of the worldwide Alternative Investment Management Association. He is Canadian Chapter head of CAIAA, the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association. He was Quebec Regional Director of the Association of Canadian Compliance Professionals.
Mr. Saint-Laurent is a frequent contributor to Advisor's Edge Report, Objectif Conseiller and Avantages, three trade publications, and participates actively in other industry publications, industry conferences and events as a writer, speaker, moderator, and chair. He is a past chairman of the board of a Canadian investment fund corporation.
