NEW PANEL ADDITION:
What Are Ways Structured Finance Can Be Applied to Support Those Impacted by Natural Disasters?

Please join us on Monday, September 18, at 8:30am for an SFIG-sponsored plenary session led by Andy Davidson. The panel will be comprised by esteemed SFIG members who will discuss ways structured finance can be leveraged as an impactful resource in the wake of a natural disaster. The panel will address:

1. How do structured finance transactions accommodate borrowers who are delinquent due to natural disasters?
2. What more can we do to make structures more accommodating?
3. How can structured finance facilitate financing for recovery operations?

Moderator: Andy Davidson, President, Andrew Davidson & Co., Inc.

Invited Panelists:
Pat Evans, Vice President, Wilmington Trust
Vince Fiorillo, Head of Global Relationship Management, DoubleLine
Eric Kaplan, Director, Housing Finance Program, Milken Institute
Barbara Pak, Vice President, Strategic Delivery Single Family, Freddie Mac

Volunteer Opportunities:

We have researched various volunteer options for attendees while they are in Miami. In speaking with the area relief organizations, they all advised of an extensive process for registering as a volunteer and ad hoc activities aren’t feasible. Rather, they encourage attendees to self-register their interest directly with the organization. If you would like to volunteer offsite, please fill out the below forms and the organization will be in touch with you directly about opportunities in the local area.

One of the urgent needs cited is getting food, water and essentials to the 200 law enforcement officials that are doing search and rescue in the Florida Keys, as well as getting food and hygiene products to Fuchs Pavilion Shelter. Therefore, in conjunction with the United Way, SFIG and IMN will be hosting a collections event on Sunday between 12pm – 5pm in Splash 12. SFIG/IMN staff will be on hand to collect your pre-assembled packet* for distribution by the United Way to emergency responders in areas most in need.

*Due to a compressed timeline and limited shipping times for supplies, onsite assembly of the packets will not be feasible. Therefore we are asking individual attendees to collate care packages and bring them pre-assembled to the collections event in your regular checked luggage. Each package must be in a sealed plastic bag, no larger than one-gallon. Please note no perishable, hot or cooked items will be accepted.

With 4,000 registered attendees, even just one packet per attendee will yield significant and helpful results, and will allow each and every attendee to make a contribution. Please see the required packet contents below as per the United Way, noting that any deviation from the below list may result in the packet being unusable.

Suggested content for food packets (needed for emergency responders and shelters)*:
  • Bottle of water
  • Granola bars
  • Crackers
  • Individual fruit cups or cans or apple sauce
  • Nuts
  • Mini cereal boxes
  • Peanut butter
  • Crackers
Must be self-contained snack packets, not loose food items. Please do not include hygiene items, that is a separate packet option listed below.

Suggested content for hygiene packets (needed for shelters)*:
  • Feminine Care Products
  • Disposable Washcloths
  • Comb
  • Toothbrush
  • Wipes
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Soap Bar
*If you plan to travel with your care packet in carry-on luggage, please be mindful of FAA restrictions regarding carry-on items

Offsite volunteer options self-registration forms: IMN yesterday contributed $100,000 to Volunteer Florida (view press release) and SFIG also pledged $100,000 to relief efforts. If your organization has also made monetary or volunteer contributions to Hurricane Irma, please share your story with us: Lauren Kerr at lauren.kerr@imn.org or info@sfindustry.org

Miami International Airport is open and we have IMN staff on flights down to Miami this morning. Florida Power & Light (FPL) anticipates having all power restored in Miami-Dade county by tonight.

We researched a number of charitable relief organizations and now IMN is pleased to put its financial support behind, and recommend to our conference delegation, Volunteer Florida https://www.volunteerflorida.org/irma/ as a disaster relief organization. From what we’ve learned, it can be very effective contributing at the local level with funds and other support being channeled quickly to where it’s most needed. Volunteer Florida is the state’s lead agency for volunteers and donations before, during, and after disasters. Volunteer Florida mobilizes and deploys resources to assist those responding to and recovering from disasters.

We have received a good amount of interest from attendees and sponsors who want to help while they’re in Miami with relief and cleanup efforts. We’re working with the City of Miami, Volunteer Florida, and other local groups to identify how we can help and will update you on that soon.

IMN will provide a further update tomorrow but we’re pleased that facilities and staff at the Fontainebleau are 100% ready and infrastructure in Miami is back up and running. As a group we can directly benefit the local community by running ABS East and we look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.

Please contact your IMN representative with any questions.

Update: Tuesday, September 12, 1pm
IMN continues to be in close contact with the Fontainebleau Hotel and various service partners of ABS East, as well as Miami city officials, to ensure we remain on course for a smooth conference. We are encouraged by City of Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine's latest statement regarding the event:

"The City of Miami Beach is proud to welcome the delegation of the 23rd Annual ABS East conference and we are thankful for the support of the securitization industry in light of the challenges our city and the state of Florida have faced in recent days. Thanks to proactive planning, sound infrastructure and expeditious clean-up efforts, we are ready and excited to host this important event and look forward to welcoming you to our city. We thank you for patronizing our local businesses and showing your support at such a critical time."

As cleanup efforts continue to progress, the following updates have been announced:

- The Fontainebleau Hotel is fully operational as of 5pm today and Eden Roc will open Thursday
-Miami International Airport has reopened
- Gas stations are beginning to open throughout Miami Beach and the surrounding areas
- Major highways and the access points to Miami Beach have been cleared, including Interstate 75, Interstate 95, Interstate 4, Florida's Turnpike and Interstate 10
- Grocery stores, restaurants, and other business establishments have begun opening as of today

IMN will continue to provide pertinent updates as they become available and look forward to seeing you in Miami on Sunday. IMN will be contributing proceeds from the ABS East event to hurricane relief efforts. Additionally we are working with local and national charities to have a presence onsite at the event and to organize additional onsite fundraising events for those affected by Hurricanes Irma and Harvey.

Update: Tuesday, September 12, 11am

Update: Monday, September 11, 9am
Reports this morning indicate Miami Beach was spared the worst of Hurricane Irma this weekend. IMN has received official word from the Fontainebleau Hotel that they weathered the storm well, retaining power and no serious damage. They plan to re-open for business as usual tomorrow afternoon. Reports from MIA International Airport echo a similar sentiment, with passenger flights currently planned to resume tomorrow afternoon.

Based on these initial reports and continued progress on cleanup efforts that will occur throughout the week, we are feeling optimistic about ABS East moving forward as planned. We will continue to check in regularly with the hotel, and various service partners of the event to ensure we remain on course for a smooth event.

We feel that continuing to host ABS East is the best way to show the city of Miami support by bringing much needed revenue to the local businesses. We look forward to hosting the City of Miami onsite, along with hurricane relief agencies to support fundraising efforts.
